Last night I couldn’t sleep
so I started to think
and EVERY single thought
that came to mind
lead right back to you.
I remembered when you
told me
that I had to learn about
myself
before I could figure out
you….
that’s what I did
last night.

And here is what
I came to a
conculsion to

that the “REAL” me
is in a
teasure chest
suffocated in chains and locks,
barried in the
sand
of a forgotten
island
abandoned in the
sea
of the lost parts
of me
and
you
are
my key,
so together we will
discover
my lost island,
hunt down
my teasure chest,
and with you
we will
unlock
“ME”

…because
I can’t be me without
you…

Interesting poem. I find that it started very sympathetic, and then shifted to a more "oppressed" feeling with you comparing yourself to a locked up treasure chest.
Using your sign. other as a metaphor to a key to help unlock you brought a touch of romance to the poem. :)

But is there really only "you" with "them"? Can there maybe be a you WITHOUT them? Maybe your chest already has a key and you hold that key?

it was for my boyfriend, so I wanted to keep it on the romanctic type side

no, really i have tried (and failed), i can't be "me" without him. it's, sadly, not a possibility for me :hmm:
